Dalacin 300 mg
DALACIN 300 mg
24 capsulesActive ingredient: Clindamycin
What is it and what is it used for?
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg is an antibiotic.Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg is used in acute and chronic bacterial infections (infections caused by contagion) by clindamycin-sensitive pathogens, such as
- infections of the bones and joints,
- infections of the ear, nose and throat area,
- infections of the tooth and jaw area,
- infections of the deep airways,
- infections of the pelvic and abdominal areas,
- infections of the female sex organs,
- infections of the skin and soft parts,
- Scarlet.
In cases of severe disease, treatment with clindamycin-containing medicinal products, which are slowly administered into a blood vessel (infusions), should be initiated.
What should you watch out for before use?
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg can not be taken,- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to clindamycin hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg,
- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to clindamycin or lincomycin (there is a simultaneous allergy to both substances).
You may take dalacin / clindamycin 300 mg only after consultation with your doctor
- impaired liver function,
- disorders of neuromuscular transmission [e.g. For example, diseased muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), shaking paralysis (Parkinson's disease)] as well
- gastrointestinal diseases in the prehistory (eg previous inflammation of the colon).
Take special care with Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg
- if you are taking Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg over a long period of time. For long-term treatment (longer than 3 weeks) the blood count, liver function and renal function should be checked at regular intervals.
Long-term and repeated use of Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg may cause skin and mucous membranes to become infected with pathogens to which clindamycin is ineffective, as well as to colonization with shoot fungi.
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg should not be used in case of acute respiratory infections caused by viruses.
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg is not suitable for the treatment of meningitis, as the concentrations attainable in cerebrospinal fluid (cerebrospinal fluid) are too low.
Clindamycin treatment is A possible treatment alternative for penicillin allergy (penicillin hypersensitivity). A cross-allergy between clindamycin and penicillin is not known and is not to be expected due to the structural differences of the substances. However, in individual cases, there is information on anaphylaxis (hypersensitivity) also to clindamycin in people with already existing penicillin allergy. This should be considered in a clindamycin treatment of patients with penicillin allergy.
pregnancy and breast feeding period
If taken during pregnancy and lactation, the benefit and risk must be carefully weighed against each other. Observations on humans have hitherto shown no evidence of fruit-damaging influences.
In the breast-fed infant, sensitization (generation of hypersensitivity), diarrhea and sprout-growth of the mucous membranes can not be ruled out.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine.
How is it used?
What is Dalacin/Clindamycin 300 mg?Always use Clindamycin 300 Heumann exactly as indicated in this leaflet. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is
Depending on the location and severity of the infection, adults and adolescents over 14 years of age take 4 - 6 capsules daily (corresponding to 1,200 - 1,800 mg clindamycin). The daily intake amount is divided into 4 single intake.
For daily intake levels below 1,200 mg clindamycin as well as for children up to 14 years, drugs with a lower active substance content are available.
In patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment, the elimination half-life of clindamycin is prolonged. A dose reduction is usually not required if Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg is given every 8 hours. However, in patients with severe hepatic impairment (severe hepatic impairment), plasma concentrations (blood concentration) of clindamycin should be monitored. According to the results of this measure, a dose reduction may be necessary, or an extension of the dosage interval.
In cases of renal disease, the elimination half-life of clindamycin is prolonged but a dose reduction is not necessary with mild to moderate severity of renal function. However, in patients with severe renal insufficiency (severe renal impairment) or anuria (lack of urine excretion), plasma concentrations (blood concentration) of clindamycin should be monitored. According to the results of this measure, a dose reduction, or alternatively a prolonged dosing interval of 8 or even 12 hours may be required.
Dosage for hemodialysis ( "blood washing")
Clindamycin is not hemodialysed. Therefore, no additional dose is required before or after dialysis.
type of application
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg hard capsules are taken with sufficient liquid (approx. 1 glass of water).
Duration of application
The duration of the treatment depends on the basic disease and the course of the disease.
Please discuss with your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg is too strong or too weak.
If you take more Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg than you should
Overdose symptoms have not been observed so far. In individual cases gastric lavage may be indicated. Hemodialysis (so-called blood wash) and peritoneal dialysis (abdominal rinse) are not effective. A specific antidote is not known.
Keep out of the reach of children. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
If you forget to take Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg
As a rule, a once-forgotten dose leads to no symptoms. The intake is continued unchanged, ie a previously forgotten dose is not made up. Please keep in mind that Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg can only be safe and effective if taken regularly!
If you stop taking Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg
In case of side effects, your doctor will discuss with you what counter-measures are available and whether other medicines are suitable for the treatment. Please do not discontinue the medication without consultation.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
What are possible side effects?
Taking dalacine / clindamycin 300 mg with other medicinesPlease tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg should not be given together with an erythromycin-containing medicinal product, as this can not rule out a mutual reduction in effectiveness.
There is a cross-resistance of the pathogens against clindamycin hydrochloride, the active substance of dalacin / clindamycin 300 mg, and lincomycin-containing drugs.
Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg can strengthen the effect of muscle relaxants (medication for muscle relaxation, eg, ether, tubocurarine, pancuronium halide) due to its neuromuscular blocking properties. This can lead to unexpected, life-threatening incidents during operations.
The safety of the contraceptive effect of hormonal contraceptives (anti-baby pills) is questioned with concomitant use of Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg. Therefore, other contraceptive measures should be used during the treatment with Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg.
What side effects are possible?
Like all medicines, Dalacin / Clindamycin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
The following categories are used for the frequency of side effects:
Very often more than 1 user of 10
Frequently 1 to 10 patients of 100
Occasionally 1 to 10 people treated by 1,000
Rarely 1 to 10 people treated by 10,000
Very rarely less than 1 treated of 10,000
Not known Frequency can not be estimated based on available data
Frequent to very frequent occur soft stools and diarrhea, sometimes associated with nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain. These complaints are usually mild in nature, and often sound during treatment, otherwise upon discontinuation. These side effects depend on the dosage form and the dosage. Also possible are inflammations of the esophagus and oral mucosa.
Very rarely, severe, persistent diarrhea occur during or during the first weeks after treatment. In this case, a pseudomembranous enterocolitis (severe intestinal disease) is to be considered (in most cases caused by Clostridium difficile). This treatment, triggered by an antibiotic treatment, can be life-threatening and requires immediate and appropriate treatment (see "Counter-measures for side effects").
Occasionally, allergies occur in the form of measles-like rash as well as itching and nettle stress. Rarely are swellings (quinque edema, joint swelling), drug fever, erythema exsudativum multiforme (eg Stevens-Johnson syndrome) and Lyell syndrome (both life-threatening diseases of the skin, in part with blistering or large skin lifting) . Very rarely, a life-threatening anaphylactic shock can occur (circulatory failure as a result of hypersensitivity). These reactions occur in part even after initial application.
There may be temporary effects on blood counts, toxic and allergic, leukopenia, eosinophilia, neutropenia, granulocytopenia and thrombocytopenia (reduction of various white blood cell types or blood platelets).
Frequently, a slight, transient increase in serum transaminases occurs (liver enzymes whose laboratory values indicate certain liver functions). Very rarely it can happen to a transient liver inflammation with Gelbesucht caused by a Gallestau.
Occasionally, a neuromuscular blocking effect (blocking the transmission of nerve stimuli to the muscle) can be observed.
Rare are itching, vaginal catarrh (vaginal discharge), as well as depilatory and blister-forming skin infections.
Very rarely it can lead to joint inflammation (polyarthritis).
If you experience signs of any of the serious side effects listed above, call your nearest physician. For other undesirable effects please consult your treating physician for further treatment.
Treatment of pseudomembranous enterocolitis:
Here, a doctor must consider terminating the therapy with Dalacin / Clindamycin 300 mg depending on the indication and, if necessary, initiate an immediate appropriate treatment (eg taking specific antibiotics / chemotherapeutics whose efficacy is clinically proven). Medicines that inhibit intestinal movement (peristaltics) should not be taken.
Severe acute hypersensitivity reactions (eg anaphylactic shock):
Treatment with dalacin / clindamycin 300 mg must be discontinued immediately and the usual emergency measures (eg antihistamines, corticosteroids, sympathomimetics and, if necessary, ventilation) must be initiated.
If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
