What is mirtazapine?
Mirtazapine is a medication for depression. This medicine belongs to the group of tetracyclic antidepressants. It ensures that the serotonin and noradrenaline content in the nervous system increase. This allows the nerve cells to communicate better, which has a positive effect on the state of the patient.
What is the medicine used for?
Doctors prescribe mirtazapine for depression. We are talking of a depression when someone has been knocked down for a long time, has little energy and feels helpless. Other symptoms such as sleep disturbances, nervousness or headaches may also occur. The drug normalizes the serotonin and norepinephrine content in the brain, which reduces these symptoms.
How to use mirtazapine?
The mirtazapine tablet must be swallowed without chewing. This can be done before, during or after the meal. Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. They then suffer less under drowsiness or drowsiness during the day. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
It takes several weeks for mirtazapine to have a good effect. Usually you feel better after two to four weeks. If you still have symptoms after this time, please consult the doctor. It may be that you need to change to another medicine.

Mirtazapine is available as 15, 30 and 45 mg tablets. Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not start to get better. In general, the following dosage recommendation applies:
Adults: 15 to 30 mg per day.
Over time, the doctor may increase or reduce the dosage. For elderly people, the doctor may recommend an appropriate dosage. Mirtazapine is not suitable for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. Read the leaflet before taking.
Side effects
As with other medicines, side effects can also occur when taking antidepressants. In mirtazapine the following side effects are possible:

When should I use this medicine?

Pregnancy / driving addiction / alcohol
Mirtazapine should not be used during pregnancy or lactation unless prescribed by a doctor.
During treatment with mirtazapine, side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness or drowsiness may occur. Do not drive your car if your reaction is restricted.
Alcohol consumption in combination with mirtazapine can lead to more or more severe side effects. Do not drink alcohol or moderate your alcohol consumption while you are taking this medicine.
