What is ciprofloxacin?
Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. The active substance ciprofloxacin kills bacteria that cause, among other gastrointestinal infections (traveler's diarrhea), bladder infections and other bacterial infections. This symptoms, such as diarrhea, fever and pain is relieved. Ciprofloxacin is only available with a doctor's prescription.
What this drug is used?
Ciprofloxacin is a strong antibiotic. Doctors prescribe it often only when other antibiotics have not helped. Ciprofloxacin is used in various bacterial infections, such as:
• infections in the gastrointestinal tract (features include diarrhea, abdominal pain and / or vomiting);
• urinary tract infections (such as cystitis or pyelonephritis);
• respiratory infections such as pneumonia, otitis media and sinusitis;
• infections of skin and soft tissues;
• inflammation in the bones and joints.
As you need to take ciprofloxacin?
Swallow the tablet without chewing it, with sufficient liquid. It is important that you drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Do not take ciprofloxacin together with dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese) a: calcium reduces the absorption of this medicine. Please do not stop the treatment early, even if you already feel better after a few days. If the treatment is not fully completed, the infection may return. A course of antibiotics ciprofloxacin usually takes, depending on the symptoms, between five and 21 days to complete.
dosage
Ciprofloxacin is available in tablets of 250 mg and 500 mg. The doctor will determine what dose is best suited to your complaints. In general, the following guidelines for the dosage of ciprofloxacin are:
• Adults: 100 twice a day during the prescribed period - taking 750 mg.
Children and adolescents may take this medicine only after a medical consultation. The doctor will then prescribe a customized dosage. Read before first taking the leaflet.
side effects
The following side effects may occur when taking Ciprofloxacin may:
• gastrointestinal problems (nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite);
• hypersensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet radiation (Please enjoy the sun with caution);
• joint pain;

• dizziness;
• sleep problems.

When not to take this medicine?
Ciprofloxacin is not for everyone a suitable drug. Please refrain from this medication if you:
• are allergic to ciprofloxacin or any of the other ingredients;
• taking the muscle-relaxing drug tizanidine.
Please ask your doctor about taking Ciprofloxacin if you have epilepsy, cardiac arrhythmia, muscle weakness or other health problems. Ciprofloxacin has to interact with several other drugs. Therefore, please state when ordering exactly what medications you are taking so that the doctor can make this.
Pregnancy / Driving / alcohol
Do not take ciprofloxacin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Exceptions can be made if the doctor prescribes the medicine.
This medicine can affect your reactions. Please take a distance from the market if you feel less alert.
Strong alcohol can trigger or increase the side effects of ciprofloxacin. For this reason, you should moderate the consumption of alcohol during treatment.
