For falling and staying asleep
If sleep impossible and the next morning is a pain, Dormidina can shorten sleep time, without addictive.
Sleep disorders represent a major health problem. Whether one is asleep or awake is in the brain regulates on certain messenger substances. The activation system stands in rhythmic alternation with the inflammatory system, the sleep state. The activating messenger is histamine, which maintains the awake state when in contact with the so-called H-1 receptors.
To sleep, the messenger must therefore be switched off. Given the soporific Dormidina with the active ingredient doxylamine succinate can help.
What's Dormidina and what it is used
Doxylamine is an antiallergic drug from the group of antihistamines 1st generation with soothing and sleep-inducing properties. It is used as a mono-preparation primarily for the treatment of insomnia and taken to a half hour before bedtime. Doxylamine is also contained in cold remedies, and there are other areas of application. In contrast to the newer antihistamines of the second generation doxylamine is not selective for the histamine H1 receptor, but additionally anticholinergic and central effect. The active substance is not undisputed because of its adverse effects. The most common possible side effects include fatigue, reduction in responsiveness, paradoxical reactions, headaches and anticholinergic side effects such as dry mouth, accommodation disturbances, constipation and urinary retention.
effects
Doxylamine has antihistaminic, antiallergic, soothing, steaming, sleep-inducing and anti-emetic properties. The effects are due to the antagonism at histamine and muscarinic receptors. Doxylamine has a half-life of about 10 hours. Unlike modern antihistamines doxylamine 2nd generation is not selective for the H1 receptor and centrally effective.
indications
Doxylamine is in Switzerland for short-term treatment of anxiety associated with difficulty falling asleep, for the treatment of allergic rhinitis (hay fever, for example) and for the treatment of influenza and cold symptoms (combined preparations) approved.
Elsewhere it is also for other applications such as morning sickness combined with pyridoxine (Diclectin® in Canada, Diclegis® in the US, retarded), urticaria or staying asleep used, is permitted, but not registered in Switzerland.
