The maximum daily dose for adults is two grams of salicylic acid (this dose should be administered no longer than a week!). Children must a daily dose of 0.2 grams of salicylic acid and a treatment period of one week is not exceeded. For them, the treatment must be limited to a skin area not exceeding ten percent of body surface.
If the skin area to be infected, the doctor may prescribe an additional antibiotic therapy.
side effects

interactions
In small-scale local application, no interactions with other drugs are known. However, the combination enhances the absorption of other active ingredients that are applied to the skin, and thus its effect.
For large-area application of the combination of active ingredients in high concentrations it can be absorbed into the body and cause interactions. Thus, the effect and thus the toxicity of methotrexate (in cancer therapy or as Immunologikum used) is amplified as salicylic acid inhibits its excretion. Correspondingly also sulfonylureas and derivatives, which are used for the treatment of diabetes (diabetes mellitus), are enhanced by the concomitant use of salicylic acid in their effect. This can lead to an excessive reduction in blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).
Contraindications
the combination may not be used in case of hypersensitivity to betamethasone or salicylic acid.
The active compound combination in severe skin infections caused by fungi or bacteria (such as acne, tuberculosis, syphilis, or an inflamed eczema) and viruses (for example, chickenpox) is not allowed. the combination may not be applied to skin reactions after vaccination. Even skin diseases such as dermatitis and rosacea perioralis should not be treated with the combination.
A large area (more than 10 percent of body surface) or longer term (longer than four weeks) treatment, particularly under sealed associations, should be avoided as it to increased absorption of betamethasone and salicylic acid may occur in the body in this case. This is especially true for patients with renal impairment or for infants and young children.
The drug combination may not be used on the eye. The application in facial and pubic area should only be made after consultation with the attending physician.
What should I watch for pregnancy and breastfeeding?
During pregnancy and lactation, a long-term treatment should be avoided with the combination of large areas. In particular, salicylic acid can be absorbed through the skin into the body and cause symptoms of poisoning in mother and child.
During lactation the drug combination should be used only after consultation with the doctor. Betamethasone and salicylic acid are excreted in breast milk and therefore in the infant. However, damage to the child are unknown. The drug combination should be applied to any case in the chest area, since the infant is not to come into contact with it.
What has to be considered in children?
In infants and toddlers, a large-scale treatment should be avoided with the combination and duration of treatment are limited to one week. Depending on the dosage, the treatment may also be regulated differently to the drug in children. Information provided by the manufacturer in the patient information must be made in any case result or consult a doctor.
